Life's a Party

Whew! What a busy night I had!

On Wednesday nights I get together with a small group of girls for Bible Study, and our leader's birthday is this coming Sunday. We decided we wanted to do something extra special, so we're surprising her with a paint your own pottery party and cake! I can't wait to paint a plate!

Here's the cake that I made and decorated. It was my first attempt at using this buttercream frosting, and I must admit that it was quite smooth and easy to decorate with!
Once I frosted the cake, I tinted the frosting darker before piping the text and decoration. I should have used a different tip for the borders, but I think it turned out alright!

Some side detail to use up extra frosting I had...

I also picked up this varigated yarn a few months ago and finally found a use for it: I used a shell stitch pattern to turn the skeins into a shawl as a gift for Amy as well. I had to finish it with a shell border all the way around since the end is left uneven by the shell pattern, but I like the look!

Using my camera phone doesn't do the colors justice, but you get the idea :)

I'll have to post pictures of the decorated items from Playing Picasso tonight! I'm hoping that I'll have time to make a little something for myself after making the birthday girl's plate, but I can't decide what yet. We'll see how creative I can get!
